Monday and Tuesday activities

16.12.11

Dear Parents,

Christmas Parties
Christmas parties will take place on Monday afternoon. Please be aware that unfortunately, any food brought in has to be bought, and not made at home. Drinks will be provided for by the school. It is also a non-uniform day.

Toy Day
Toy Day is on Tuesday and is also a non-uniform day. Please remember that any toy brought in is the pupil’s responsibility. School will close at normal time.

Staffing
Sadly, we have to say goodbye to Mrs Marlow, who is moving schools to become a Deputy Head. We wish her all the best! A warm welcome to Mr Bevan, who will be replacing Mrs Marlow. Mr Llewellyn will become Acting Deputy Head, and will be teaching part time with Mr Burgess, in order to fulfil his Deputy duties. Mrs Gardiner will be teaching full time in January.

School Meals
With the end of term quickly approaching, please could I remind parents that all meals are to be paid for in advance on Monday morning. It is school procedure to report any arrears at the end of the half term to our auditing team at the Education Office.

Christmas Concerts
A big thank you for all your support during the Christmas concerts. The children looked and sounded fantastic! We are very, very proud of them all again this year.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours sincerely
Miss Harwood
Deputy Headteacher

Christmas at Pontyclun Primary

Click on the link below to view this year's amazing Infant performance. The children performed brilliantly for an hour and a half. Well done to you all, it was a fantastic show. (Be sure to choose the full screen option when fully loaded).

Last Saturday was a lovely day for celebrating Christmas at Pontyclun Primary. The morning started with "Breakfast with Santa" in the main hall. The PTA did a fantastic job of organising the annual event, and over 150 children had a delicious breakfast before meeting the special man himself. Thank you PTA.

During the morning Mrs. Able and Mrs. Brown took the school county dancers to Peterson Super Ely's Christmas Fayre. The children performed as number of dances for the crowd who all thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Later in the afternoon Mrs. C. Davies took our Show Stoppers to perform at the Llantrisant Parish Church's Christmas Tree Festival. Three of our very talented musicians from year 6 played the violin and cornet before the children sang songs beautifully to the large crowd that had gathered.

All of these events have really put everyone into the Christmas mood. A huge thank you to the PTA, the staff  and particularly to the pupils and parents. Diolch yn fawr.

Our Eco Tee at Llantrisant Parish Church Tree Festival 2011

OUR ECO CHRISTMAS TREE

Pontyclun Primary school is an eco school. We achieved the status four years ago, because of the lengths that the school goes to reduce, reuse and recycle. This year, we decided to decorate our Christmas tree for the Llantrisant Parish Church Tree Festival  with recycled materials. All of our pupils thought about suitable materials to use, designed the decorations and created them in Design and Technology lessons. We had so many excellent decorations that we made a second Eco Tree in the school foyer. This Saturday, pupils from our school will be singing a collection of hymns and performing music at the festival at 14.45. Our pupils will also be Country Dancing at a Christmas Fayre in Peterson Super Ely this weekend. Good luck to all of the children at both events.

Monday 28 November 2011

Welsh country dancers

Mrs Abel and Mrs Brown would like to say a big DIOLCH and DA IAWN to the 14 girls from years 3,4,&5 who danced outside at the PAG Victorian Christmas fayre on Saturday! You were absolutely brilliant despite the cold and drizzly weather :) Even your mums, dads and grandparents enjoyed joining in at the end too!

( I do have some photos but unfortunately there seems to be a problem with the blog uploading them!!)

Please note that country dancing practise this coming Thursday (1st Dec) is CANCELLED due to the Christmas fayre. Also next week practise will only be for the children who are coming with Mrs Abel and Mrs Brown to Peterson Super Ely on the 10th December. Country dancing practise will resume normally after the Christmas break.

24/11/11
Dear Parents.

Please can I remind parents that Nursery finishes at 3.15pm and Reception at 3.20pm.

It has been brought to my attention that parents are beginning to congregate as early as 2.45pm to collect their children. This is not ideal and can disrupt and impact on the normal teaching and learning going on in class as well as sometimes causing a conflict of interest with regards to individual children’s health and safety.

I would therefore ask that parents do not arrive to collect children until 5 minutes before the end of the school day.

Would Reception parents also be mindful, that Nursery leave before Reception and so ensure there is enough space for Nursery children to be safely and securely handed over to those who are collecting them.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Yours faithfully

Mr H Roberts
Head Teacher.

Newsletter 23.09.11

23 September 2011

Dear Parents

Scooters, bikes and dogs
Please may I remind parents that dogs are not permitted onto the school yard, either walked or carried.

There seems to have been a recent trend of children coming to school on bikes and scooters and then using these on the playground before and after school. This has resulted in a number of “near misses”. Therefore, we would request that bikes and scooters are not used at any time in the school yard.

School Uniform
A number of items have already been put in the lost property box and are not named. Please do ensure that your child’s name is clearly labelled on the clothing. Could you also please check that sweatshirts and hoodies do belong to your child as a number of named items have also gone missing. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Harvest Festival
We will be having an in-school Harvest assembly on Friday 30th September. We will also be collecting loose change to fill our harvest picture with. Please could children come to school on Friday with their loose change collections.

Lunchtime Supervisors
We currently have a Lunchtime Supervisor’s position available working in the Foundation Phase.
If you are interested in this position or know of anyone who would be interested please contact the office on 01443 237833. The hours of work would be Monday to Friday 12 to 1.10 p.m. The salary is £151.53 gross per month.

Moviestarplanet.co.uk
It has been brought to my attention that some students have been using this website outside school and in doing so have been indecently propositioned. It would be advisable if parents check their child’s internet usage and act appropriately with regard to this website.

Polite Reminder
Can parents please be aware that the Junior school finishes at 3.30 p.m. and children will often be in P.E. lessons in the yard until at least 3.25 p.m. A number of parents are arriving early and congregating in the Junior yard which is impacting on teaching. Would parents please wait down the side of the school by the bicycle shed if lessons are ongoing.

Should a parent need to speak to a member of staff, unless it is of the utmost urgency, please could you do so at the end of the school day rather than at the beginning as this is starting to impact on teaching time for your children.

Holiday Absence
If parents are considering booking their annual holidays during term time, please do consider that taking two weeks’ holiday per year throughout a school career, results in at least 24 missed weeks. This is the equivalent of over two-thirds of a school year. Please bear this in mind when asking for authorised holiday absence.

Yours sincerely

Gwyl Plant Morgannwg - Children's Festival Of Dance

Last Saturday our Country Dance members joined children from across South Wales to enjoy the Children's Festival Of Dance at St. Fagans. It was a wonderfully sunny day to dance on the grass to a live band. The pupils were watched by visitors to St. Fagans and parents alike who picnicked - until being asked to join in. The children showed off their dancing skills and a great time was had by all. The school has taken part in the festival for many years under the amazing direction of Mrs. Reed. This year’s performance was very special for her as she is taking a long earned break this summer when she plans to retire. She will be very sorely missed at Pontyclun and the children, parents and staff are so grateful to her for the time and effort that she has devoted to developing country dance (among so many other areas) at Pontyclun Primary.

Dorothy

Dear Parents

It is with great sadness that we heard that Auntie Dorothy passed away during the half term holidays. As you are no doubt aware, Auntie Dorothy was a member of our lunchtime staff for many, many years and in that time was a loyal and trusted colleague and friend.

The suddeness of her passing was certainly a shock to us all and a dearly loved and special character will be deeply missed. I am sure you will join with us in sending our deepest condolences to her family.

We will be holding a remembrance assembly with the children next week.

If parents wish to make a donation, please send it c/o Mr David Speed, 2 High Street, Brynsadler as all donations will be forwarded on to the Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice.

Our Adopted Pets

At Pontyclun Primary we have recently adopted some new pets. We were supported by Pets at Home in Talbot Green. All the children will be allowed to participate in the care of our animals. We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Pets at Home and also to everyone who has sent in donations to help with the on going care. World Book Day At Pontyclun

Today was World Book Day, the pupils and staff celebrated their love of reading by dressing up as characters from their favourite books. The entire school was filled with colour, laughter and literature as everyone enjoyed a fun packed day. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the parents who donated books today. 10 February 2011

Dear Parents,

St. David's Day Photographs
The photographer from the Llantrisant Observer will be visiting the school during the morning of Friday, 18th February to take photographs of the children in their Welsh Costumes. Could children please come to school wearing their Welsh costumes. If parents wish for their children to change into a school uniform after the photographs, please could this be brought to school in a plastic bag. If you are happy for your child to remain in their costume throughout the day, then that is fine.

Term Dates
It has been brought to our attention that the school term dates are not easily accessible via the school website. We are working to rectify this problem but in the meantime if parents go to the latest news link and then click on the school calendar heading on the right hand side of the page, this will provide you with the appropriate information. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Half Term
Half term holiday is Monday 21st February to 25th February.

Closure Days
School will be closed to pupils on Tuesday 3rd May 2011 and Friday 13th May for staff Inset. These are dates agreed by the Primary School Cluster and cover Moderation of Science, Maths and English, as well as “Managing Support Staff”.

Please be aware we are waiting on the Assembly Minister for Education to confirm if another training day is to be taken during the Summer Term. Schools that closed for the snow may have the day removed but as of yet no firm clarification has been received but I will let parents know as soon as I can.

Lost Property
Please check lost property for missing items as any clothing remaining after half term will be taken to the Charity Shop.

Dinner Money
Please ensure that all accounts are settled before half term as details of arrears will be passed on the relevant authority.
