Dear parents,

Focus week.
I hope that your children have enjoyed their focus week on Anti Bullying and Respect. I certainly feel that the week was very successful, and from discussions with children the response appears to be very positive.
A big thank you to all the volunteers and groups that have been in school helping to make the week the success it was. Special thanks must go to South Wales Police for providing a number of exciting opportunities for our children.

School sickness
It is that time of year when a number of different virus’s and bugs seem to be ‘doing the rounds.’ To try and ensure that we limit the number of children/ families impacted by these outbreaks it is imperative that children are not returned to school for at least 48 hours after the last bout of sickness etc. Your co-operation in this matter is appreciated.
If parents contact details have changed please inform the school office, if your child is sick we need to be able to contact you.

Piano Tuning
Thank you to Mr Eric Lloyd for generously arranging and financing the tuning of the school piano ready for the Christmas concerts, it really does sound much better and will, I am sure, add to the quality of the productions performed.

Data Protection
We do have parents ringing us up from time to time asking for telephone numbers and addresses of other children/ parents. Please be aware we are not allowed to divulge these details unless we have the permission of the persons whose details are being sought.

School Website.
Please check the school website for the new ‘Blogs’ that are appearing, featuring news and pictures of activities in school and in your children’s classes. The school website is www.rctednet.net/pontyclunprimary.

Yours faithfully

Respect Week

Last week was national anti-bullying week. To mark the week the school decided to organise it's own respect week. Below is a selection of the different activities that the children have been taking part in. Invited into school were different outside agencies including the riot squad, South Wales Police's dog handling team, the transport police and Cardiff City Football Club and their mascot Bartley. The emphasis for the week was on being a positive role models to other pupils, showing respect to people in our school, families and the wider community, understanding that rules (in and out) of school are there to protect us and should be adhered by, and developing a sense of responsibility for our actions in and outside of school. On Friday all of the pupils wore blue as a sign of their commitment to zero tolerance on bullying and they all signed a pledge on our "Anti-bullying wall". Below are pictures of activities that took place during the week: The police dogs gave the children an understanding of the work that they do in keeping us safe in the community. The children were able to help the transport police with the speed camera on the main road into Pontyclun. Bartley gave the pupils an anti bullying lesson during assembly, and Zak Williams from CCFC spoke to the children about being a good role model as a footballer. The school would like to thank all of the organisations that gave up their time to help the school highlight a very important issue. This weeks Pontyridd Observer has a full article on our activities last week.

Children in Need

A very successful afternoon was spent with Year 6 providing a variety of stalls and activities that the rest of the school were able to enjoy. Hair spraying, cake stalls, golf, guess the teddy and beat the goalie were just a few of the activities available. Big thanks must first go to all the year 6 children for their efforts both in the designing and the running of the stalls. Also we must thank all the other children for their enthusiastic and generous response. In total the school raised a fantastic total of over £500 for Children in Need.

Breakfast with Santa.
The P.T.A have asked if there is anyone who might be willing to lend them a gazebo with side for the breakfast with Santa morning, on Saturday December 6th. If you do, could you either speak to one of the P.T.A reps, or alternatively ring the school office on 237833.

Lost property
The amount of lost property is building up fast again. Please could you encourage your child to check the pile if you are missing any items.

Focus Week
Next week will be slightly different in that we will be running a focus week with the emphasis on ‘Respect and Rules’. We are hoping that there will be a number of different people and organisations in school this week such as drama groups, puppet shows, the police etc who will all help the children focus on the respect and rules. We will also be running a road safety campaign alongside the police focussing on the area around our school.

Comic ReliefAs Friday is Comic Relief day, we will be holding a non-school uniform day. If parents wish to make a voluntary donation for this please feel free to do so. Year 6 children will also be running a variety of games stalls in the hall for children during the afternoon. All monies collected will go directly to Comic Relief
